Starting with Marit Falt and Rona Wilkie Hailing from Norway and Oban although now based in Newcastle have been making a big noise this year. Rona also won BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of The Year in January, a very talented duo. Rory Butler, Glasgow based singer songwriter, his début album Naked Tree has been well received and is working on his second one. He will be supporting Sam Lee in St Andrews In The Square on 18 January at 7.30 and along at Hazy Recollections at the O” ABC2 on 3 February 2.30pm.
Then from Northern Ireland Realta Connor Lamb (Uilleann Pipes and Whistles ) Deirdre Galway (Guitar , Bouzouki, Vocals ) Aaron O’Hagan ( Uilleann Pipes, Whistles, Bodhran) new band member Mick McCluksey (Bouzouki ) will play with them on January 19 in The Mitchel Library along with the Shetland Bus.
From Manchester, singer songwriter Ben Church who’s influences is is anything between heavy metal, jazz, pop and anything in between! He as a new EP out ‘My Lot’ Will be appearing on 23 January in St Andrew’s In The Square at 7.30 supporting Crows’ Bones
From East Kilbride and beyond Barluath – Ainsley Hamil, Alistair Paterson, Colin Greeves, Edward Seaman, Eilidh Firth. Whose wide range of styles include Gaelic and Scots song, bagpipes, whistles, fiddle, guitar, bodhran, bouzouki, bass, clarinet and piano. Have released a new CD Source. They will be playing on 24 January in The Tron Theatre at 8.00 supporting Ahlberg, Ek & Roswall.
From Edinburgh, The Black Diamond Express www.myspae.com/theblackdiamondexpress a nine-piece soaked in poetry, myth and bourbon Led by the enigmatic Jack of Diamonds its combination of slide, acoustic and electric guitars over string bass, cello and fiddle, blues harp, banjo, drums and percussion beguiles with the look, the sound and (what really sets them apart) the energy of railroad blues bona fides. Will be appearing on 22 January in The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall at 7.30 supporting The Mavericks.
