Tønder Festival looking forward to being back in 2021
Like many a festival this year the world renowned Tønder Folk Festival could not happen – they still managed to pull excellent concerts together over the weekend finishing as by custom ‘ The Circle’ See you all there next year 26 to 29 August 2021
Dear Tønder Festival fans,
We miss the smell of sawdust, we miss getting ready for the summer’s main event: Tønder Festival. We hear that you feel the same. We need that rush! Friends, we have listened to you – of course the last weekend in August has to be a celebration; it’s a tradition.
We cannot party in the usual way, as things are. But we will not be defeated by a little thing like a pandemic. One year without a festival does not mean we have to forego the atmosphere, the spirit, or the music. Tønder Festival is a vital tradition.
So let’s join in and welcome:
Tønder Festival Circle
It happens in your garden, on your patio, in your summer cottage, wherever you choose to celebrate a fantastic Saturday.
If you invite your friends and set the table, we will supply:
- Festival music in your speakers, including live interviews on festival radio
- Festival packs containing festival wine, festival support wristbands, booklets with greetings from musicians, Tønder Festival recipes and much more
- Corporate packs of festival events (28th August 2020)
- Festival food delivered throughout Tønder County
- More to be announced
In other words, we will give you a hand in building your own Tønder Festival wherever you are. Call in your Tønder Festival gang, carry on as you usually do at the festival or start some new traditions. Tønder Festival Circle is our shared festival fix. None of us can do without. We’re sending it out to everybody who wants to join in.
Working in conjunction with local restaurants and other good folk in the Tønder area, we can assure you that if you live here, or are one of the many who have retained your booked accommodation in Tønder, then there is plenty to look forward to.
We hope you are up for it. Let’s help keep Tønder Festival going – let the circle be unbroken.

Folk Spot Denmark at the Tønder Festival
From Liz Clark – aka Auntie Liz
I have had the great privilege to attend the festival for many years and the Folk Spot at the Tønder Festival from it’s embryotic stage 10 years ago – showcasing in the main the fantastic established and emerging Danish artists, this would have been their ninth year in full flow. The Festival is also a Magnificat showcase for established and up and coming Scottish Artists since the Festivals conception. The stunning artists I have seen over the Folk Spot and then at festivals in the UK as well as seeing them travel throughout the world is a testament to how highly regarded this company, it’s artists and the festival are. The programme of events does not only let you hear new artists but meeting of fellow guests brought together in this showcase many a bond and collaborations , which without this showcase.
I thank the Danish Government for being so instrumental in funding for this event and can only hope that they can continue to do so, shows just how much the Government is behind it’s music and culture! Other countries should take heed of this great support and encouragement for it’s artists.
I am of course saddened not to be attending this year BUT! I know they will be back stronger and with a plethora of artist and good company! To support them please keep your tickets for this year – to help with finances – check the website for updates!
On my Festival F;ing on Saturday 29th Aug – I played 4 past Folk Spot acts – The Floating Sofa Quartet / Fromseier & Hockings / Basco / Julie Alapes as a salute to the Festival, the Showcase and the fantastic artist
See you at the place 2021

Folk Spot Denmark is a showcase program held at Tønder Festival. Folk Spot Denmark 2020 would have been the ninth edition of the showcase and is arranged through a collaboration between Tønder Festival and SPOT Festival. Every year the goal of Folk Spot Denmark is to increase awareness of Danish folk and roots music abroad, so that Danish orchestras have better opportunities to create concert jobs etc. internationally. Eight folk and roots bands – or soloists – will be selected to play a showcase concert for about 40 specially invited international industry people, journalists, bookers, managers and more. – and the Tønder Festival’s always sympathetic audience. In addition to the showcase concerts, there will be meetings and networking events between the performing bands and the invited Danish and international industry people. Anyone interested can submit an application. link to application) The deadline for applications for 2021 will be given later.
