The Celtic Music Radio Album of the Week commencing Saturday 12 October is the new CD by singer-songwriter Tim Edey called Sailing Over The 7th String and is released on 14 October.
The album features Steve Cooney, Patsy Reid and Lucy Randall and is produced by Robin Wynn Evans (Manic street preachers, Dodgy, The View, Sam Brown).
Liz Clark talks to Tim about his music and the new album which is Tim’s long awaited solo release since winning “Best Musician” at the 2012 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
This is a landmark album in many ways for Tim. His mentor since teenage years, and great friend Steve Cooney features on two tracks including Tim’s favourite melody for years, “My Prayer” a guitar duet between Tim and Steve.
New arrangements of Gaelic and Irish melodies for guitar+strings featuring the top Scottish fiddler Patsy Reid (Vamm, Breabach). And there is a nod to Latin American music with Rumba Negra, classical mastery with English composer/guitarist Jon Sanders’s piece “Jenny’s tune”, a trip to gypsy jazz learnt from his father as a child on accordion with “Swanee river” and lots more to discover.
Album of the Week, Saturday 12 October 12noon and 12midnight and 6.00pm Monday 14 October plus Catch Up anytime.
