Celtic Music Radio’s CD album of the week fro w/c 3rd July is ‘Town That Time Forgot’ by Terry Penney.
Terry Penney is a contemporary folk artist, whose songs are so vivid and image-driven that they have been likened to ‘3-minute movies’.
Singer-songwriter, Terry Penney has the ability to ‘put you there’ in his songs and for the past ten years, he’s done just that. His current album, ‘Town That Time Forgot’ is regarded as being his best work to date which garnered the coveted Music NL SOCAN Songwriter of the Year award in 2009.
The gritty, stripped down production lays bare Penney’s songs and his empathy for haunted veterans, fugitives, long gone jukebox heroes, and blue collared strugglers.
Last month, Terry appeared at the 10-day Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas. As a part of the New Folk Songwriters competition he played to a sold out crowd at the Threadgill Theatre in Kerrville. Terry says: “Thanks to everyone at Kerrville including the hundreds of volunteers for making my experience in Texas unforgettable.” The trip and performance at Kerrvile was made possible by support from Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council and Music Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.
