On the Ciaran Dorris Sunday Session today, Sunday 26 May, will see a welcome return to the show for singer-songwriter Heather Young who lives in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire. Heather is just 17 and displays a musical talent and maturity beyond her youth.
Having experienced an upbringing of music festivals, folk clubs and sessions with friends and family, her talents as a singer/songwriter have been founded on growing up within the folk traditions.
Her confidence, enthusiasm and natural ability to communicate her songs have been recognised by established musicians and the folk world where she is increasingly being asked to perform on the club and festival circuit. Her haunting voice and accomplished guitar playing style are attracting new audiences wherever she plays.
At the age of 15, she was accepted to perform at the Celtic Connections Open Stage 2011 where she was highly commended for her performance, and was once more accepted into the Danny Kyle Awards again in January 2012.
Recently, Heather has played at the Salle des Fêtes cipro xr 1000 mg doses in Seclin (France), Douglasdale Music Festival (Douglas, Lanarkshire), Isle of Arran Folk Festival, Gentle Giant Festival (Forth, Lanarkshire) as well as the Stonehouse, Glenfarg, Clydesdale and Irvine Folk Clubs.
In 2011, she also won both the Open Stage and Song Writing competitions with her song ‘Soldier Boy’ at Dundonald Folk Festival in Ayrshire.
