On the Mary K. Burke Show tonight, Sunday 26 January, from 7.00pm will be special guests Shelagh Jones and Martin Stephen Jones.
Shelagh has been around music all of her life. Her father played guitar and sang mostly country songs and as a child she spent the entire summer on a farm in Ireland every year and there were lots of parties where everyone had to “do a turn”.
At 18 years she bought a Joan Baez album and realised that her voice had been playing in her head all of her life as her mother always had the radio on in the kitchen.
She has recorded her own songs, songs by various artists such as Kate Wolf, traditional songs and more recently songs that she has co-written with Greenock poet Anastasia Williams (Owolabi).
Her music is a mix of traditional and modern folk sounds with a bit of alternative country.
Martin Stephen Jones is a singer-songwriter who is also from Greenock. His musical style ranges from soul and blues to country, rock and folk. Martin writes songs in both English and Spanish with his musical influences are wide ranging from Sam Cooke to Billy Joe Shaver to Eric Bibb, Frankie Miller and Status Quo.
