Sheena Wellington, Scotland’s leading traditional singer celebrates her birthday today, Monday 28 August and joining her to celebrate will be Danny Matheson when he has a birthday chat with her tonight.
On Sunday 4 September, Sheena performs a selection of her favourite songs at Innerpeffray Library, Crieff, Perthshire.
Born in Dundee into a family of singers who gave her many songs and ballads which she sings today, Sheena Wellington’s status as one of the country’s leading traditional singers owes much to her roots.
The Scottish folk ‘revival’ of the early 1960s introduced her to the singing of all-time greats Jeannie Robertson and Belle Stewart. This and her own background influenced her style and choice of material.
