Written by celtic music radio on December 26, 2024
Singer-songwriter and harpist CHLOE MATHARU has topped our Album of the Year poll for a second time with her latest album, Sailors And Rolling Stones.
It is her second release and the exciting follow-up to Small Voyages her debut album that won our Album of the Year Award in 2022.
Based in the West of Scotland Chloe’s songs are inspired by her time at sea as a Navigational Officer in the Merchant Navy and the natural world, as experienced from the sea.
Sailors And Rolling Stones is an evocative selection of inventive electronic soundscapes featuring her original songs plus arrangements of traditional Scots songs, Celtic harp and sound scaping by Glasgow-based Tomekeeper Productions.
Through her music Chloe hauntingly lends a voice to the modern-day seafarer. She has won widespread praises with one reviewer observing:
“There’s a thoughtful and sensitive appeal in Chloe’s song writing while her voice, coupled with her superb harp playing, form a haunting combination.” I
In second place, listeners voted Silver Lining by Good Guy Hank with Elspeth Cowie’s Who Knows Where The Time Goes coming third.
The quality of albums considered was exceptionally high.
The results were announced in today’s, four-hour Album of the Year Show hosted by Auntie Liz Clark, Hugh Taylor, Martin Stephen Jones and Ian Oliphant, who had the honour of revealing our winner.
