Roaming Roots Review
Roddy Hart and the Lonesome Fire +guests
Saturday 23 Jan, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
Well what a fantastic evening, this is what Celtic Connections is all about.
A great mixture of styles, ages and a music legend thrown in for good measure. Roddy Hart is fast becoming a festival treasure as he comperes and guides you through the show. The Lonesome Fire provide a fantastic loom for the artists to weave their magic on , they are the modern day Caledonia Soul Orchestra.
Highlights for me were, Blue Rose Code, Anderson East, Justin Currie and of course Kris Kirisoferson but it’s not really fair to pick out individuals. Suffice to say this will be the first ticket for me to buy for Celtic Connections 2017 !!!!!!
What a concert! Right from the start, the energy was really great! As always, GRCH is a superb venue but the sound mixing during the first half, I thought, was ‘out’ and would have liked more distinct vocals.
However it became better and better! In short, highlights were; Roddy Hart and his supporting band, individually brilliant and faultless together, Anderson East was a special treat -his rendition of Tupelo Honey was exceptional and Blue Rose Code , who I did not know before will definitely seek out and learn more, what a voice, loved his dedication to a modern troubadour Amy Winehouse…
Leads me to that ultimate troubadour, Kris Kristofferson. Only too aware that I saw a legend, complete package, unmistakable and still strong voice, easy yet compelling stage presence and seemed genuinely moved by a true Glasgow welcome. Yes, where else for a memorable show but Celtic Connections!
