Right from the very first tune these three guys from Donegal had the audience tapping their feet in time to the music, such was their infectious music. They produced music that I didn”t think was possible from three fiddles.
Ciarán O’ Maonaigh, Aidan O’Donnell, and Damien McGeehan make up the band Fidil and it is quite simply fiddling at its very best. Damien at times was holding and playing his fiddle as you would a mandolin. He also managed to produce a percussion sound from it as well.
By the time the fourth set of tunes were being played people were already on the dance floor.
The dancing numbers increased with each set of tunes aided by Aidan who as well as being a maestro on the fiddle was also adept at getting people onto the dance floor and showing how the dances should be done.
I could run out of adjectives to describe Fidils” music but breathtaking, inspirational, magical are a few that will give you a general picture of just how good these guys are.
They have only been together a few years but to see them you would think they were together all their days.
In addition to
their subliminal music the craic between them and the audience was just what you would expect from three young Irishmen. All in all this was a wonderful night.
With the dancing and music, Fidil brought Donegal to Glasgow.
