Review Ewan McLennan at Celtic Connections Thurs 30th Jan 2020 in The Tron Theatre
Ewan McLennan first appeared in the Scottish folk scene in 2010, some 10 years ago, and is now firmly established as one of the finest in the business. He sings with passion, honesty and sincerity.
McLennan started his set with a Burns classic “A Man’s A Man for A’ That” and finished with a Dylan classic “The Times They Are A Changing”. In between his set was interspersed with Scottish traditional songs and self penned ones. Each word and lyric were clearly pronounced, a rarity in these days where loud instruments sometimes outdo the vocals. This was an entirely acoustic set with Ewan relying on his guitar and banjo for accompaniment, both of which were played wonderfully. His voice is magical Ave his delivery of the songs is a joy to behold.
Ewan McLennan has a new album out called “Borrowed Songs” which, if tonight was anything to go by, is definitely with a listen to.
