Piping Live’s Festival Fling

Written by on August 11, 2023

Glasgow’s International Piping Festival is celebrating its 20th edition and a host of events starts today (August 12) through to the 20th.

This annual, week-long celebration of bagpipes from across the world embraces Scotland’s heritage and that of piping cultures from around the globe.

The Festival has been delivered in-person and online continuously since August 2004, and coincides with the World Pipe Band Championships, on August 19 on Glasgow Green, run by the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association and Glasgow Life.

Around 300 bands are in the city this week with an estimated 30,000 expected to attend.

A live Big Band will perform from outside Kelvingrove Art Gallery every day.

Auntie Liz will be focusing on it all on her Festival Fling Show today – and her special guest will be Finlay MacDonald, Director of Piping at The Glasgow Piping Centre.
