Dougie MacLean says: “After the great response we had to the changes last year we have decided to spend another year based in the historic and picturesque town of Dunkeld in Perthshire.
All our venues throughout Perthshire (from iron age crannog to castles, cathedral, town halls and concert hall!) will be Special Venues and we have a welcoming home for our ‘base’ in the Royal Dunkeld Hotel. There is a lovely upstairs function room for the Open Mic, Cabaret Amber, Songwriter Showcase and various demonstrations as well as a spacious lounge for The Big Knit and music sessions.
A comfortable street-level bar is being made available for our tickets, merchandise and information area and Neil Menzies and his team will be providing special festival meals and snacks. For the 10 days of the festival we’ve decided to call this grand old hotel ‘Amber Central’.The Royal Dunkeld Hotel has a long history with Dougie MacLean and his family.”
Dougie’s grandfather Hugh MacLean was well known for breaking into Gaelic song after a few drams in the Old Public Bar and his father Duncan MacLean’s first job at age 14 was as a doorman there (complete with top hat and red suit!) in the 1930’s. Dougie’s own first paid job was as a waiter in the hotel restaurant at age 16… though once his hair grew too long he was demoted to the kitchen to wash pots! He also remembers many hours spent in the hotel garden fine tuning his guitar playing during his work breaks!
Until then, here’s a wee word from Dougie:
