The Celtic Music Radio Album of the Week commencing Saturday 20 April is Anna Massie and Mairearad Green ‘s album . Liz Clark caught up with them just before they went on tour to talk about their second album together and current projects, aired on Saturday 20 April at 12 noon and 12 midnight and on Monday 22 April at 6.00pm
This talented duo met when they move down to Glasgow 10 years ago to study and are part of the new wave of artists who are taking the music through the tradition to new and exciting directions, to wider audiences and to great acclaim. This is their second collaboration together, bringing together tunes that they have played together, played on different instruments and very much enjoyed performing in the past.
Mairearad has played and composed music almost all her life – Winner of many awards from The PRS Composer of the Year, The MG Alba Scots Music Award – as well as a solo career. In recent years can be seen on stage with not only Anna Massie but The Poozies, The Box Club and the Unusual Suspects to name but a few!
Anna is a skilled multi-instrumentalists, from guitar, fiddle, mandolin and most recently banjo. Winner of the TMSA Young Traditional Musician of The Year. Anna has performed not only as a soloist, with Mairearad and her own Band, but in Blazin’ Fiddles and The Unusual Suspect and is much sought after by fellow musicians.
