Mary Ann Kennedy
Mary Ann Kennedy – from Glasgow but steeped in the Gaelic tradition of her family from the Isle of Skye and Isle of Tiree . From an early age studied the clàrsach and piano trained at the RSAMD and Roy Norther College of Music in Manchester where she obtained a highly prestigious Master’s degree. From there as well as performing moved to Inverness and became a renowned Gaelic News Presenter as well as her long running Global Gathering for BBC Radio Scotland- then presented World on 3 on BBC Radio 3 as well as many other radio projects along the way.
Also producing world recording artists from their Watercolour Music Studios with her husband Nick Turner.
Her latest album ‘Glaschu’ tells the story of growing up as an urban Gael and revels in the searing wit and vivid songwriting of some of the great Glaswegian Gaels. Mary Ann was joined on stage by singers from Sgoil Ghàidhlig Ghleann Dail (Glasgow’s Glendale Gaelic School), and by Finlay Wells on guitar.
Mary Ann Kennedy New album ‘Glaschu’ and The Canny Band appeared on the 20th Jan in The Tron Theatre .
