11:15 Laura Kenny
Live in session on this week’s Celtic Country is Laura Kenny. Laura had an album of self penned original material, titled “Drive” released way back in the very early days of Celtic Music Radio. She then went touring the world, and settled in Hong Kong for the next decade, playing acoustic venues there.
Now she’s back in Glasgow, and we’re glad to hear her play here once again.
03:15 The Andrew Collins Trio
The trio from Toronto won the Canadian Folk Music Award for Instrumental Group of the year in 2014 and 2016.
Andrew is equally comfortable on mandolin, fiddle, guitar, mandola and mandocello alongside fellow string guru, Mike Mezzatesta, whose versatility and mastery shine through on guitar, mandolin, fiddle and mandola, and in-the-pocket, James McEleney, holding it down on the bass, mandocello and vocals.
They simply excel, performing an intoxicating blend that has been described as Chamber Grass.
The Andrew Collins Trio play Celtic Connections tonight along with Jenna Reid & Harris Playfair and Mr McFall’s Chamber in The New Auditorium at 8pm
