Today”s Ciaran Dorris Sunday Session guest castaway is Jason Smith from Milngavie Folk Club.
Milngavie is a place to the north of Glasgow and a starting point for the West Highland Way walk.
With the blessing of its former custodians,
Bob and Roz Gilchrist, Milngavie Folk Club was resurrected in 2004 by Jason Smith. Located only yards from its original venue of the Black Bull Bar (now, rather unceremoniously, a Marks and Spencer store), the club has sought to continue the tradition of bringing a mixture of established and emerging artists to an intimate local venue.
Over the last nine years, with names like Martin Simpson, Kris Drever, Martin and Eliza Carthy, Dougie McLean and Martin Taylor, the club has become a focal point for music fans in Milngavie and beyond. In fact, since the ticket website started in 2010, there have been patrons from as far as mainland Europe, the US and Japan.
The club continues to provide great gigs in a unique setting to a dedicated and passionate audience. The next few months will see performances from Robin Williamson, John Renbourn, Pete Price, Roddy Woomble and Kelly Joe Phelps.
Milngavie Folk Club meets at The Fraser Centre, Douglas Street, Milngavie, Glasgow G62 6PA.
Ciaran Dorris Sunday Session, 30 June 2013, 5.00-7.00pm Catch Up anytime.
