On Hotchkiss Hotchpotch with Gordon Hotchkiss on Wednesday 27 February will be special guest Jack Bethel.

Jack was a member of the highly acclaimed Scottish-Irish band Setanta and Jack is a renowned expert and player of the Hammer Dulcimer.

Dulcimers are found all over the world in many traditions.

Gordon will be talking to Jack about the history and development of the instrument within various traditions with musical examples.  The main emphasis will however be on the history and use of the instrument in a Scottish context.

Jack Bethel has a wealth of information on this and with Gordon, they will be looking at the development of Dulcimer Bands and individual players.

There will of course be lots of live

music from Jack to show the use of the instrument within Scottish and Irish Music. He will be accompanied by the well known Glasgow Fiddle player Jimmy Maguire and Cittern player Stewart MacIsaac.
