In Conversation with Iain Copeland – Paul Harrison Tues 3rd Nov 2020  10pm – midnight



Join Iain Copeland aka The Phat Controller will be in conversation with Paul Harrison Tues 3 Nov between 10 – midnight.

Paul Harrison from originally from Manchester but settled in Scotland is  – Jazz Pianist / Organist / Composer / Producer / Arranger / Teacher will be talking to Iain about some of his on going projects.

Paul attended Edinburgh University on a prestigious piano scholarship and in his final year he was awarded the Tovey Memorial Prize, n 2009 Paul won the award for Best Pianist at the first Scottish Jazz Awards ceremony, and in 2011 received another award for Best Project for his composition The Hospitalfield Suite. In 2010 Paul was commissioned by the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra to write an arrangement of music by Miles Davis for guitarist John Scofield to play. Recent projects include two CDs with contemporary jazz saxophonist and highly distinctive composer Martin Kershaw, and a UK tour with saxophonist and composer Phil Bancroft’s Home, Small as the World show. In 2012 he tackled setting to music to the words of Scots poet William Soutar for a theatre show In a Sma Room. More recently he can be seen in an experimental duet Herschel 36 with percussionist Stuart Brown in which they play extended, freely improvised electronic music.

Paul now teaches on the jazz degree course at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and at The University of Edinburgh. Paul has performed in concert halls, clubs and jazz festivals around the world including Montreux, Rochester, Vancouver, Cork, Shanghai, Hong Kong and London Jazz Festivals, the International Association of Jazz Educators in New Orleans, and arts festivals and workshops from New York to New Zealand. Performs with Scottish Chamber Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and Northern Sinfonia.

Paul also has been commissioned as a composer to create work for the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, Hippodrome Festival of Silent Cinema, Mr. McFall’s Chamber and many others. Also a composer and producer of recordings of his own projects including Act Shy, Herschel 36, Sugarwork along with Phil Bancroft Graeme Stephen Stu Brown, Brazilian sound of Trio Mágico.

Paul is currently a lecturer in Jazz, Piano, Composition, Arranging, Ensemble Coaching and Ear Training.
