Celtic Music Radio’s CD album of the week is ‘Rhythm & Burns’ by Ian Bruce.
Ian Bruce brings Robert Burns up to date. Here we have a fresh sound with the lightness of jigs and slip jigs (The Tailor, Robin Shure in Hairst) and mouth music of Comin Thro The Rye and Duncan Gray (extended to African vocal noises in the latter) plus the jazzy walking bass settings for Charlie Is My Darling and Rattlin Roarin Willie: the delicacy of It Was A’ For Our Rightfu King.
Ian Bruce (vocals, guitar, percussion, keyboard) with Stevie Lawrence (slide guitar, bouzouki, mandolin, Appalachian dulcimer, hurdy gurdy, bodhran), Chris Agnew (bass, vocals), Richard Werner (percussion) and Chris Wright (tabla).
