On the Ciaran Dorris Sunday Session this week will be his ‘castaway’ Strathaven-based singer-songwriter Growlin’ Graham Carter.
An Englishman now based in Lanarkshire, Graham originally hails from Poole, Dorset on the south coast. It is here that he first picked up a guitar at the age of 17 and a harmonica at 18. Initially teaching himself to play from books, he soon became influenced by the works of Bob Dylan, Paul Simon and The Dubliners, thus his fascination with the world of folk & roots music began.
He plays simple, yet effective acoustic guitar in a variety of styles, often accompanied by a wailing blues harp played in the rack, Dylan style.
His strong voice enables him to produce performances ranging from melodic spirituals and child ballads through to raucous blues and gospel numbers.
Graham performs frequently in the folk clubs and festivals around Scotland where he has always been very well received and has quickly established a reputaton as a powerful and entertaining perfomer.
He is currently finalising plans for a debut CD of original songs which should be ready for release in early 2013.
Ciaran Dorris Sunday Session, 21 October 5.00-7.00pm and Catch Up anytime.
