Many opposed the war and were willing to face imprisonment or death for their beliefs.
Women found new roles in society along with fighting for the right to vote.
Labour disputes and Socialist ideals threatened not only the established social order but the continuation of the war.
There was mutiny in some of the armed forces throughout Europe three dynasties fell along with revolution in Russia.
The old order was changing and these and other facets of social change, opposition to the war, socialist agitation including Red Clydeside and revolution will be represented in song throughout the programme.
