Glasgow’s Shanty Festival Sat 21st Sept 2019
Tall Ship Glenlee at Glasgow Harbour, during the Clydebuilt Festival
Before the show you will be welcomed aboard by music from father-and-son concertina-and-fiddle duo, Tom and Neil McDermott. They have played together for over 25 years in a variety bands and informal sessions in Glasgow and the West of Scotland. Tom is a founding member of venerable Clyde Coast ceilidh institution Chantydyke, has played with folk-pop legends Gallagher and Lyle and is a stalwart of the Babbity Bowster Wednesday music session. Neil has performed with Scottish/Breton fusion band Askollen, Glasgow-based Scots song group Quinie and in various National Theatre of Scotland productions. He recently toured and recorded with French a cappella trio Tartine de Clous and Scottish balladeer Alastair Roberts.
During the day there will be free performances in the beer tent from Monkey’s Fist (2pm) and Muldoon’s Picnic (2.30pm), plus spontaneous busking
Held in the tween decks of the tall ship, an evening concert with some of the UK’s finest traditional singers and close harmony groups from both banks of the River Clyde
After the main concert an informal singaround will take place, down in the atmospheric hold of the Tall Ship, until the witching hour
