Marilyn Middleton Pollock (pictured) is singer who is as well known in the world of jazz and blues as she is in that of folk music.
Originally from Chicago her music took her right across the USA and then to Europe where her first album ‘Nobody Knows You’ in 1988 won the Music Retailers Association Award for Excellence.
Hugh Taylor persuaded her to appear at last year’s Moniaive Folk Festival and was instantly brought back this year as part of Dumfries & Galloway Music Festival.
When she is not performing she runs renowned voice coaching sessions. She is joined on stage with fellow American and now resident in Scotland, Kate Kramer with Steve Hicks & Lynn Goulbourn at The Little Theatre, Lockerbie.
Steve is originally from Ockendon, Essex and in the late 1970’s when he heard Duck Baker in concert. Duck was living in London, recording for Stefan Grossman’s label Kicking Mule Records and giving guitar lessons. Steve took lessons from Duck for over two years. Throughout the 1980’s Steve taught guitar a lot and began studying classical guitar. A move to Scotland in the late 1980’s saw Steve become heavily involved with Scottish traditional music, playing at many sessions and dances throughout Dumfriesshire, west of Scotland and in the Lothians. Since 2000 Steve Hicks has built a solid reputation as a fingerstyle guitarist and luthier. In 2007 Steve teamed up with the outstanding vocalist Lynn Goulbourn. They perform regularly throughout the UK and have toured USA three times and have released there debut CD ‘Hicks and Goulbourn’.
