This weekend Festival Fling brings you concerts from last year’s Girvan Folk Festival as a taster for this year’s festival which is next weekend 3 – 5 May.
The First concert is The Sanna
Kristan Harvey stunning young fiddler from Orkney has her own band, Young Trad Musician of the Year, as well as playing with The Sanna; Sean Gray on guitar – also has a dup with his sister and is of course in The Paul McKenna Band; multi-instrementalist Megan Henderson who is also in Breabach come together in this excellent and vibrant young band.
The second concert is Lucy Pringle and Tommy McCarthy
Lucy Pringle One of Scotland’s finest traditional singer Lucy Pringle formerly a member of The Linties, a duo with Chris Wright as well as in a trio. This busy young lady blends Scottish tradition together today with that of Irish Traveller, singer and keeper of songs.
Tommy McArthur from Ireland now residing in London, brings song that have not been heard before for many a year, some nearly being lost to us all.
The Third Concert is John McCreadie singer songwriter, a stawalt of the Scottish folk scene. John has been a band or two as well as a solo artist. His well crafted songs have gone into the tradition, notably ‘Doomsday in the Afternoon’ which is sung and recorded by many an artist, about the injustices towards the travellers which unfortunately lasts until this day.
Finbar Magee singer songwriter from Belfast is a welcome visitor to Scotland and has entertained us well up and down the land. Writes poignant and reflective songs, as well as his well known humorous songs which he had recorded ‘Ship of Fools’.
Not to mention the wonderful hecklers from the floor! Great afternoon gig.
The Adam McCulloch Trio
Adam was raised in the music and his debut CD ‘In These Times’ which not only has traditional songs but his own compositions. One of which won the Grivan Signwriting competition, so can’t say fairer than that .
So come and join us next week at the Girvan Folk Festival.
