Three contrasting solo vocal operators with up-and-coming Nairn-born songstress Jemma Tweedie, whose folk’n’blues blend has gained both BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music airplay. Alistair Ogilvy, already renowned as a superb traditional singer, unveils mainly original material on his new second album, and ‘original’ is certainly the word for Becci Wallace’s artful alignment of folk and hip-hop elements. The afternoon session ends with full five stars – for neo-bluegrass combo The Dirty Beggars’ 2012 debut album Bite the Bullet, splicing terrifically taut instrumental work with luscious vocal harmonies.
