2019 has been a busy year for Beth Malcolm; performing at the Orkney Folk Festival; winning Edinburgh folk club’s 44th songwriting competition; and launching ‘Choose My Company’ EP on her first solo tour. The 21-year-old singer/songwriter has recently moved to Edinburgh after graduating from University in Glasgow – the city which became her lyrical muse. Beth met Fat-Suit guitarist Dorian Cloudsley while they were both performing at the Danny Kyle Open Stage at Celtic Connections in 2017, and they have been writing and performing captivating sets together ever since.
Beth has also released Debut EP ‘Better by Noon’ and looks forward to a very busy 2020
Muckle Spree is a progressive folk music sound that resolves Ollie and Michael’s long term desire to push that traditional-instrumental-boat out into new waters.
At the core of the sound, Michael’s musical dexterity is honed into a multi-stage loop pedal coupled with and array of effects. Through this, both instrumentalists weave an evolution of riffs and tunes, creating drive and harmony that pushes both their abilities .
The whole performance draws on a background of traditional instrument, but balances them on a different edge – one that groves into the digital effects age.
Inspired by a range of genres, Nico draws on the musical styles he loves most. The blues, which have always fascinated him, go hand in hand with rock, pop and folk. His original compositions and innovative arrangements will surprise listeners with interwoven, overlying melodies, made possible by the combination of fingerpicking and flat picking techniques.
A classically trained and highly regarded acoustic guitar player for over 15 years, in 2016 Nico G chose to embark on a new challenge and began his current solo project, creating and sharing his unique finger-picking playing style with audiences worldwide.
Since this time he has played in Austria, Germany, Belgium, Scotland, England, Wales and Canada, releasing his first solo EP ‘Acoustic Guitar’ in 2016 and follow up EP ‘The Road Book’ in 2018. He’ll be recording a new Live CD in February 2020.
Malachy Arnold/ Rory Startk/ Breanna Wilson / Sophie Joint
Malachy formed his new band with musicians he had met and played with and ‘seemed like a good combination – did some recordings and sent them to us at The Canny Kyle Open Stage – and as they say the rest is history!
Looking to record further tunes and looking forward to catching them up along the way!
