We are an enthusiastic group of music-loving volunteers who run Celtic Music Radio.
Since 2003 we’ve been supporting established, developing, and up-and-coming artists across the spectrum of what’s sometimes referred to as “Celtic music.”
We are pleased that many of Scotland’s trad/folk/roots musicians currently performing and releasing albums got their first airplay on Celtic Music Radio.
Our reputation for sustained, excellent programming has been recognised by the regulator, Ofcom, through periodic Restricted Service Licences (RSL) in the early days to a full-time Medium Wave licence, enabling us now to broadcast round the clock, every day on 95FM across Greater Glasgow, and around the world on mobile apps and online at www.celticmusicradio.net.
Our audience has grown in the last 15 years and we now reach approximately 40,000 listeners per month on FM with a further 30,000 online. As well as broadcasting 24 hours a day from our Glasgow studios, we also contribute significantly to the world-renowned Celtic Connections in Glasgow with live broadcasts throughout the music festival.
We also broadcast from other hugely popular festivals such as Celtic Connections , Perthshire Amber, The Spree and the annual Glasgow Americana Festival.
Our philosophy is to support contemporary and traditional Scottish music, arts and culture, and to work with and for the community including those who do not have access to mainstream media.
As we have developed, we have successfully broadened our output to include other ‘roots’ music genres such as Americana, Country and Blues. We firmly believe we are unique amongst broadcasters in the UK as no other station gives 100 per cent of its programming to these exciting musical genres.
We also run competitions for listeners, host House Concerts and carry gig and album reviews on our website.
Where resources allow, our hope is to continue to grow and eventually, perhaps, to establish a Scotland-wide radio network, bringing great music to more people than ever before.
