Ciaran Dorris’ Sunday Session guest ‘castaway’ this week is guitarist Russell Ballantine.
Russell is part of The Albanach Duo which was formed in 2008 with Paul Devery.
Both are experienced performers having played in various bands, quartets and trios for many years and recently they were two thirds of the trio Terz.
Russell with Paul play music with a Scottish connection features prominently from early works associated with musicians of the Scottish Royal Courts to trad tunes and works by contemporary Scottish composers.
Russell Ballantine was born in the mining town of Whitburn, West Lothian in 1962 and was a relative latecomer to the guitar. However, within two years he was playing in the local club bands around the area. He found himself drawn to American blues music and became a formative member of the blues band Bo’Weevil who were in existence for around 15 years.
