Put Your Money Where Your Ears Are
Celtic Music Radio 1530AM is a community station broadcasting to Glasgow and via the internet at www.celticmusicradio.net
The station will be holding its first Radiothon, launching on Friday 3 August from 8.00pm – a week after regulator Ofcom awarded the station a licence to move to the FM waveband.
Celtic Music Radio is one of the most listened to community radio stations in the UK and an important ambassador to promoting Scotland, its music and its culture. The celticmusicradio.net web stream attracts listeners from countries such as the USA, Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, France, Canada, Japan, Portugal and as far away as Australia.
The Celtic Music Radiothon, the first of its kind in Scotland, will be launched on Friday 3 August 2012 at 8pm on popular show Thank Folk It’s Friday and will run through until Sunday 12 August.
During this time, many of Glasgow’s musicians will playing live on air for donations, special donation request shows, and a range of items for auction including autographed CDs and a wedding photography package courtesy of Gordon Hotchkiss (www.gthphoto.com).
As well as assisting to fund Celtic Music Radio, the event will also help the station to transfer its programmes to FM later this year.
Chairperson Alex Jenkins says: “Funding Celtic Music Radio has become increasingly difficult in the present economic climate, so we have decided to take a lead from similar radio stations in the USA. We believe this is the first time a Radiothon has been held in Scotland by a music station.”
Alex adds: “We will be asking our estimated 54,000 monthly listeners to help us pay the running costs of Celtic Music Radio through a monthly subscription of just £5 per month.”
Celtic Music Radio is also the only media outlet that promotes the myriad of festivals that take place across Scotland, from smaller events such as Glenfarg and Moniaive Folk festivals to our renowned coverage of Glasgow’s Celtic Connections.
Celtic Music Radio 1530AM offers a unique service to Scotland’s traditional and contemporary musicians. It is the only radio station in Scotland that promotes music created and performed by Scotland’s practising artistes, 24 hours a day, 365 days a week. The station’s mission is to be a strong cultural voice for contemporary and traditional Scottish music, arts and culture.
