Cara

Dillon initially came on stage accompanied by six musicians including her husband Sam Lakeman and began the concert with this small group for a few songs before being joined on stage by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

She sang traditional songs along with many of her compositions which generally reflected her home town and the surrounding area, making them more poignant for her to sing.

Some of the songs performed were the Streets of Derry, P is for Paddy, The Maid of Colmore and Black is the Colour.

Cara is quite a petite person, however, her presence on the stage does not reflect this at all.

Backed by a full orchestra, it would have been quite easy for her voice to have been overwhelmed by their sound – this was not so and they complimented each other very well.

This certainly gave some of the more traditional tunes a different aspect making them more powerful.

Cara received a great ovation at the end and then returned to sing her final song “The Parting Glass” accompanied by Sam on the piano.

A great concert set in a lovely venue, certainly well worth seeing and hearing.
