In January each year many of Ireland’s, and the world’s top traditional musicians, travel to Glasgow to pay tribute to their musical friend, the late Jimmy McHugh who passed away in January 1999.
The 16th Jimmy McHugh Memorial Concert takes place this Saturday, 10 January 2015 in The Woodside Halls, 36 Glenfarg Street, Maryhill, Glasgow with a start at 8.00pm.
On Gordon Hotchkiss ‘Hotchpotch’ programme on Wednesday 7 January at 7.00pm, Gordon’s special guest will be Jimmy McHugh’s son Brendan.
He will be live in studio 1 to talk to Gordon about the annual concert and the life and times of his father. The Four Provinces Ceili Band will also be in the studio to talk to Gordon and play a live set.
At the concert on Saturday night, guests performing on the Woodside Hall stage include Martin Donohue on accordion from County Cavan, Ireland; Mark Kelly on guitar from Co. Dublin; Manus McGuire on fiddle from Co. Clare and Sligo; Mick O’Connor on banjo from London and Colm O’Donnell on flute and singer from Co. Sligo, Ireland.
