Armagh Pipers Club
50th Anniversary Celebration concert

Wednesday 20th January

Tonights concert is a celebration of music and teaching that has come from the Armagh Pipers club founded by Brian and Eithna Vallely and with a string of music and song from Lunasa Flook and Buille.

The opening tune “Duck a l’Ronge” with a strong influence from the mandolin playing from Buille had the audience tapping the feet from the start of the concert til the last tune was played . The band were joined by Jarlath Henderson for the sweet melody that was “Spanish Shore” . Buille gave a great performance and loads of toe tapping and tuneful melodies that paved the way for a night sensational music.
Next group on stage were Flook featuring the flutes, penny whistle, guitar and Bodhran with a the tune “Pressed for time” by Gordon Duncan and then on to “wrong foot forward” with a wonderfully relaxing feel to it giving a sense feel of the atmospherics that pipes can be put to and giving the concert a great feeling of the time and patience that has went in to teaching at the Armagh Pipers Club .

We were next give great entertainment by the fieve piece band Lunasa with 2 sets of pipes a Double bass Guitar and flutes that filled the stage with a fantastic sound playing tunes such as “Palm Sunday” “The Dusty Miller” “A Brace of Reels” with a great fusion of Guitar and Double Bass . The evening was given an added insight in to the Pipers Club with a great set of pictures on the backing screen showing shots from the very beginning of the club to present day . To round the eveing off all musicians came on stage and were joined with a standing ovation to Brian and Eithne Vallely a great tribute to a lifetime of teaching and playing .
