In 2017 long-standing colleagues and friends David Foley & Jack Smedley found themselves with an abundance of brand new, un-played music. Much of this music was created during the writing process of the three critically acclaimed albums they have released with RURA, an award-winning Scottish folk act of which they are founding members.
Since meeting in 2008, Foley & Smedley have gone on to
share stages across the globe with RURA who received a ‘Danny’ from the Danny
Kyle Open Stage at Celtic Connections in 2011 and have performed as a duo at
countless events throughout the UK.
Having each performed with some of the biggest names in the folk scene and recorded with a plethora of award winning artists, the pair are sought after musicians in their own right.
Foley & Smedley officially joined forces in 2018 for a performance at the world famous Celtic Connections festival and this the duo’s debut album released in March 2020!
They both wrote the tunes over a period of time while giging with Rura, not for playing with Rura but saved for this duo’s collaboration – tracks such as So Long Lefty – which was written by David for Jack who had taken ill in Germany on tour with Rura and they had to leave him behind while they continued with the tour ! Greme & Carly’s was written by David for friends of his that he met over the years at a workshop festival in the borders, for their wedding.
The due hope to do another tour, in between bands commitments once the lockdown is past !
