Album Of The Week – The Quiggs – ‘Shooting Star’

Written by on February 22, 2025

This is the fifth duo album from The Quiggs and it’s a vibrant mix of old and new songs, a few traditional, a couple of self-penned ones and songs by other songwriters past and present.

It’s a collection – recorded at Kevock Digital Studio with Ian McCalman behind the desk – offering strong melodies and lyrics that linger.

With songs from Scotland and beyond, the Danish/Scottish married couple folk duo presents a unique tapestry of tracks woven with a Celtic thread.

Whether the material is traditional or contemporary the distinguishable mark of The Quiggs is the quality of the voices in harmony and the strength of the songs.

Stephen is a well-established folksinger who has made a living playing music for over 40 years. He grew up on the west-coast of Scotland where music played an important part of his formative years. He has performed solo and was a member of the legendary folk group The McCalmans for ten years until they finished up in 2010.

Pernille grew up in a very small village in the East of Jutland, but she moved to Ireland looking for musical inspiration and later to Scotland where love and music combine in perfect harmony.

Stephen (vocals, guitar, banjo and bodhran) and Pernille (vocals and guitar) consistently deliver simple, yet highly expressive songs as this album clearly proves.

You can hear them chat about Shooting Stars and many other things with Hugh Taylor on our Album of the Week Show today at midday.
