Album of the Week – The Fretless ‘Glasswing’
Written by celtic music radio on October 19, 2024
The Fretless are captivatingly vulnerable, introspective and transformative on this, their sixth full-length studio release – and they are “immensely proud” of it.
The four-piece, award-winning band – Trent Freeman (fiddle/viola); Karrnnel Sawitsky (fiddle/viola), Ben Plotnick(fiddle/viola), and Eric Wright (cello) – wanted the album to be experimental in nature and it successfully captures magical performance moments, superb subtleties, and over a decade of playing together.
Glasswing features seven entirely new original instrumental pieces and three songs, co-written with (and performed by) Madeleine Roger.
As one critic observed: “The music they’re making, the ground that they’re breaking, is quite remarkable.”
The band will be discussing their music on our Album of the Week Show today at midday.
