Album Of The Week – Session A9 ‘The Magic Roundabout’
Written by celtic music radio on April 6, 2024
Session A9 have deservedly earned their reputation over the past 20 years as one of the best live bands in the country adored by fellow artists and the wider public alike.
Their latest dazzling release ‘The Magic Roundabout’ demonstrates over eight scintillating tracks that they can record their magic as well, big style.
The album has self-penned tracks but also includes songs written by top-drawer artists Tom Waits and Robbie Robertson.
“We are excited to bring the CD out after such a long break and we think this recording brings a new energy and positivity,” said band member and fiddler, Charlie McKerron.
“It is still very much recognisable as Session A9 of old, but with new twists and amazing new tunes, so we really hope everyone will love it as much as we do.”
With band members having played key roles in Capercaillie, The Peat Bog Faeries, The Boys of the Lough, Fiddler’s Bid, Blazin’ Fiddles and The Treacherous Orchestra, it’s no wonder they are frequently described as a “Scottish Supergroup.”
The band – who have been described as playing with ‘zest, finesse, harmonic sensitivity and an element of cheek and mischief’ – are in the midst of a Scottish tour.
But, they will be chatting with Liz Clark on the Album of the Week Show – Saturday, April 6 – at midday.
