Album Of The Week – Reitir ‘Alt Som Eingong Va’

Written by on March 1, 2025

REITIR play the songs of Robert Burns translated into the Norwegian dialect from West-Telemark.

Their collection includes beloved melodies like Auld Lang Syne, My Love is Like a Red Red Rose, and Ae Fond Kiss plus up-beat songs like Rigs o’ Barley & Tibbie Dunbar, as well as energetic Scottish dance tunes.

Aasmund Nordstoga – voice; Ingebjørg Lognvik Reinholdt – voice; Sarah-Jane Summers – fiddle / voice; Juhani Silvola – guitar and Morten Kvam – double bass / voice combine to create music that celebrates dialects, traditions, and the warm, feisty poetry of Burns, creating its own musical space somewhere across the North Sea.

They pull in the vocal styles of West-Telemark (a key Norwegian folk music area, and the home of Aasmund & Ingebjørg), Sarah-Jane’s Highland tradition and Juhani and Morten’s wide-ranging backgrounds.

These songs go straight to the heart and the dancing feet with beautiful melodies and universally appealing lyrics, conveyed with warmth and humour for a fresh, new sound.

They will discuss their approach to making music with Hugh Taylor on our Album of the Week Show today at midday.
