Album of the Week – Lab Raps: self-titled
Written by celtic music radio on April 5, 2025
LAB RAPS is a bold and inventive album embracing hip-hop, classical, jazz and folk that features a wide range of rappers and instrumentalists.
Produced by The Glasgow Barons regeneration orchestra, Lab Raps is an experimental project commissioned by orchestral conductor, Paul MacAlindin.
The 12-track album confidently offers tracks of Gaelic mouth music alongside songs about addiction and recovery, and it has been critically praised as “eclectic and ground-breaking.”
The rappers and instrumentalists are: MOG, AjForty7, Evie Waddell, Freestyle Master, SVG and Sweet Rogue musicians, Roo Geddes (fiddle); Neil Sutcliffe (accordion); Ewan Hastie (double bass; Lewis Banks (saxophone); Zach Ronan (accordion) and Dan Griffin (bass guitar).
This important musical help project also operates in partnership with FREED UP CIC, the recovery community event provider.
The album, as well as offering a mighty fusion of music and rap, is also helping recovering addicts move on using their talent.
You can hear more about it all on the Album of the Week Show today at midday, hosted by Auntie Liz Clark.
