Album of the Week – Ímar ‘Awakening’
Written by celtic music radio on April 22, 2023
A five-year wait for Ímar’s third album is over and the result is hugely gratifying.
All five band members are now based in Glasgow but they have musical backgrounds encompassing England, Ireland, the Isle of Man and Scotland and on Awakening they flourish with a collection they clearly loved creating.
The album’s emphasis is on the band’s own compositions but, in turn, these have been inspired by stories, locations and traditions from the musicians’ various home grounds.
Ímar – featuring current and former members of Mànran, Mec Lir, RURA and Talisk – tackled the new album in a straightforward manner and they couldn’t be more pleased, as will be their fans.
They will be chatting about the record and its background on the Album of the Week Show today (Saturday, April 22) at midday with Liz Clark.
• ALBUM OF THE WEEK SHOW – ÍMAR in conversation with Liz Clark, 12 pm.
