Album Of The Week – Have Mercy Las Vegas ‘Light and Shade’
Written by celtic music radio on March 9, 2024
True to its name, Light And Shade, from Scottish festival favourites, Have Mercy Las Vegas seamlessly moves from their acclaimed toe-tapping barn dance-style tracks ventures into darker, more ominous territory.
While firmly rooted in the Folk/Americana genre, this second album offers traces of blues origins more prominently than in their previous works but the musical range change is accomplished seamlessly.
Every aspect of the album, from song writing to musicianship and harmonies, has moved to a higher level, while still retaining the unmistakable essence of Have Mercy Las Vegas.
As one critic observed, the five piece – Crispin McAlpine, Eilidh Cowan, Marc McLean, Stephen Scott and Andrew Napier – pay “homage to Appalachian music and slide blues while remaining essentially true to their Scots roots.”
Stephen will be joining Liz Clark on today’s Album of the Week Show at midday.
• Album of the Week – Have Mercy Las Vegas’ Stephen Scott in conversation with Liz Clark about the band’s latest album Light And Shade – Saturday, 9th March – from 12 to 1 pm.
