Album of the Week – Good Guy Hank ‘Silver Lining’

Written by on August 10, 2024

Blistering bluegrass, country guitar, lightning mandolin, virtuoso fiddle playing and three-part harmonies galore contribute to the terrific music on ‘Silver Lining’ from GOOD GUY HANK.

From the harmonious heartlands of Scotland and the musical metropolis of Melbourne, Australia, this trio bring all of the heartbreak, joy and everything in-between to this free-flowing offering that’s been road tested far and wide.

Good Guy Hank are Theo Barnard (double bass, guitar and vocals) from Scotland’s much lauded hell-raising band of bluegrass desperados, Wire & Wool; Pepita Emmerichs Fiddle (mandolin and vocals) of Australian indie-pop sensations, Oh Pep! and Donny McElligott (guitar and vocals) of highly respected Scottish Americana outfit, The New Madrids.

Heavily influenced by the likes of Hank Williams, Stanley Brothers, Bill Monroe, Gram Parsons and Gillian Welch, they are heading to the Netherlands in September and are scheduled to appear at the Glasgow Americana Festival in October.

“We’re incredibly fortunate to be able to share our music with so many friendly folks, in so many wonderful places,” they said ahead of appearing on our Album of the Week Show with Liz Clark today.
