Alan Burke, on his Late Night programme on Wednesday 21 August, will have as a special guest Fergus Muirhead talking about his brand new book A Piper”s Tale.
A Piper’s Tale is a new book published later this month by Cargo Publishing and the book is full of fascinating and entertaining stories from some of the world’s greatest pipers and from every genre of the music, discuss the issues of the day.
For example, why did Willie McCallum start to play; who taught Murray Henderson and how did Roddy MacLeod manage the greatest pipers in the world in Spirit of Scotland Pipe Band? And, where did Stuart Cassells get the idea for the Red Hot Chilli Pipers and does Ian Duncan think that pipe band pitch is getting too high?
So many questions and Fergus has the answers to these and many questions from the world of piping plus what do they think of the world of piping and where it’s going?

Fergus Muirhead is an experienced writer and broadcaster. He has written on all aspects of money and consumer issues for a number of newspapers and magazines as diverse as Scotland on Sunday, The Herald, Sunday Herald, The Sun and the Journal of the Probate Section of the Law Society. He wrote a regular column in Moneywise Magazine and for five years he was Consumer Champion at best selling magazine Women’s Own.
He is the author of three money advice booklets for One Parent Families as well as a number of Chapters in the Probate Section Journal Yearbook. He has also written on-line content for RBS ‘Money Sense’ website as well as their ‘Teacher’s Guide to Finance’ Booklets.
As well as his writing credits, Fergus has appeared regularly on a number of radio and television programmes.
Fergus has travelled the world playing the bagpipes, initially with Molendinar in the late 1970s and more recently with The Caulbums Ceilidh Band. He teaches The City of Barcelona Pipe Band and is a regular at concerts, Burns Suppers and weddings in Catalunya.
He has acted as MC at concerts in every Piping Live! Festival over the last 10 years and is in demand as a speaker at Burns Nights all over the world. Fergus was a presenter with Celtic Music Radio with a regular piping programme.
