Ofcom’s Community Radio Fund Panel has awarded Celtic Music Radio a £30,000 grant – the station’s biggest ever public funding boost.

The successful application was hailed by chair of Celtic Music Radio’s board of directors, Alex Jenkins, as ‘terrific news for all volunteers and station listeners.’

Alex said: “This major funding boost will enable us to open part-time posts for a Training and Development Consultant and a Community Engagement Consultant.

“These very important posts will be advertised in due course and once the positions are filled, the benefits to the station and our audience will be immeasurable.

“We are extremely grateful to the Ofcom panel for this £30,000 grant as all of us at the station continue to press on to make the listening experience even better with our programmes.

“It’s terrific news, really very special.”

The Ofcom Fund Panel came to the decision after considering 80 applications for grants in the second round of funding for the 2024-2025 financial year.

The total amount of funding requested in these applications was £1,852,282 with 15 applicants awarded grants, totalling £261,476.

The grants awarded ranged from £5,752 up to £30,000 for individual positions, with an average of £17,432.
