Tunnock's
Live At Celtic Connections – Celtic Music Radio

Celtic Music Radio will be once again at the heart of the world-famous Celtic Connections festival that gets under way this week (Thursday, January 16.)

The station’s Celtic Connections live coverage – sponsored by Tunnocks, the internationally-renowned Uddingston-based, family-run confectionery business – is extensive.

It includes live, daily coverage of the Danny Kyle Open Stage (DKOS) shows from Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall and five days of live broadcasts from Glasgow Caledonian University’s Connections On Campus, featuring top student talent at the ninth staging of these popular shows.

These free, lunchtime performances are in association with Celtic Music Radio and TRADtv.

On Monday, January 20 – and for a total of 20 days – our presenters will also be hosting shows live from our outside broadcast base in the Royal Concert Hall with special guests providing chat and live music sessions.

Audio students from Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) will be producing these sessions on behalf of the station.

And all through the festival, our normal round-the-clock schedules will run uninterrupted as well.

Chair of the station’s board of directors, Alex Jenkins, said: “This is an exciting period for Celtic Music Radio and we are grateful to Tunnocks for their sponsorship for the first time.

“We will be providing more than 90 hours of live shows from the Royal Concert Hall, including the DKOS sessions that play to a full house each evening.

“Live broadcasts of the concerts from Glasgow Caledonian University’s Connections On Campus are going to be a real treat for listeners as well.

“We are grateful that audio students from the university are playing a main production role in our live programming from the Concert Hall.

“Listeners tuning in will not be disappointed with the coverage coming their way.

“We’re at the heart of Celtic Connections again and this a tribute to the expertise and commitment of all the volunteers at Celtic Music Radio.”

Liz Clark – aka Auntie Liz – producer, presenter and trustee of DKOS, said:

“It’s great that Celtic Music Radio, the DKOS media partner, is broadcasting live every evening again. I’m really looking forward to it all.

“There will be quality musicians on stage and quality live music being broadcast, which is a special combination.”

Senior lecturer in music and audio technology at Glasgow Caledonian University, Patrick Quinn, said:

“We have a fantastic line-up for Connections On Campus and our audio students are looking forward to these lunchtime shows and also their involvement in live, afternoon broadcasts for Celtic Music Radio.”

The first live Celtic Connections’ show goes out from the DKOS at 5 pm on Saturday, January 18.
