Album of the Week – Beth Malcolm ‘Folkmosis’
Written by celtic music radio on November 2, 2024
With her second album, Perth singer-songwriter BETH MALCOLM delivers an intriguing musical coming-of-age story.
Initially commissioned by Celtic Connections and developed in association with Perth Theatre And Concert Hall into a stunning, three-act multimedia performance, FOLKMOSIS embraces traditional and new songs, film and the spoken word.
It’s a story that bends and twists against a shifting soundscape.
Act One is rooted in the classic folk songs Beth grew up listening to. Act Two follows her “rejection years” as she dives into the soundtrack to her angsty, heartfelt late teenage years. Act Three sees Beth come of age and come home to the songs and sounds of Scotland as a now-grown woman.
Named Scots Singer of the Year in 2022, Beth is involved in a major touring schedule at the moment and she launches the album, supported by some of Scotland’s finest musicians from the folk and jazz scenes, at Celtic Connections in Glasgow’s Barony Hall on February 1.
She will be chatting with Liz Clark – aka Auntie Liz – on this week’s Album of the Week Show.
