Album of the Week – Morag Brown & Lewis Powell-Reid ‘Auld Springs New’

For their tantalising debut album, Auld Springs New, Morag Brown and Lewis Powell-Reid have distilled the music they’ve been brewing for over a decade.

The duo play a rich rand rewarding repertoire of acoustic instrumental music from Scottish traditions along with many others and this shared intuition and love of spontaneity allows them to freely move between melody, harmony and improvisation.

Lewis performs with accordion, cittern, guitar and bouzouki while Morag plays fiddle and five-string fiddle, allowing them to veer from sounds that reflect their Scottish and Celtic heritage one moment before slipping the next into an equally appealing sound that is altogether eclectic.

Together, they deliver their music with one voice and they are in conversation with Auntie Liz Clark on today’s Album of the Week Show at midday.
