Because of the current Covid-19 restrictions the format for the 2021 Danny Kyle Open Stage will be completely different. With Liz Clark at the helm, Celtic Music Radio will broadcast the show between 5pm and 7pm over the course of the festival, playing three recordings from each act. As in previous years, judges will choose 6 acts to go through to the final.

Danny Kyle was a passionate supporter of traditional music and a constant campaigner for its revival in Scotland. In previous years, the Open Stage would take place each night of the festival in the Exhibition Hall at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. New musical talent given the chance to shine under the Celtic Connections spotlight and the six best acts win through to the final night showcase concert. With a support slot at next year’s festival up for grabs, it’s a hard fought competition.
Produced and presented by Danny’s close friend Liz Clark, it has been the launch pad for many now familiar names such as Karine Polwart, Rura and The Chair.
