Album of the Week – Martin Simpson and Thomm Jutz ‘Nothing But Green Willow’

This exciting collaborative release by Martin Simpson and Thomm Jutz successfully reinvents a group of folk songs for today’s audiences.

‘Nothing But Green Willow : The Songs of Mary Sands and Jane Gentry’ is focused on Jutz’s long-running obsession with Cecil Sharp’s 1916 and 1918 collection, “English Folk Songs from the Southern Appalachians” and those collected from just two singers, Mary Sands and Jane Gentry.

“These are mysterious songs – that’s what sets them apart from popular music,” said Jutz, who is a Grammy-nominated and IBMA Award-winning songwriter and guitarist.

Stellar guests playing on the album include Sierra Hull, Angeline Morrison, Odessa Settles, Tim O’ Brien, Tammy Rogers and Seth Lakeman and Cara Dillon.

The album is out on Topic Records on September 29.
