Album of the Week – Breabach ‘Fàs’

Scottish folk band Breabach – widely praised for their energetic and accomplished contemporary brand of folk music – make a wonderful return with Fàs their first full-length album in four years.
Fàs is a Gaelic word meaning growth, developing and sprouting, and the band declare the music is heavily inspired by Scotland’s natural environment.
Newest member Conal McDonagh (Highland pipes, vocals, whistles, and Uilleann pipes) makes his debut, joining Megan Henderson (fiddle, vocals), James Lindsay (double bass, Moog, vocals), Calum MacCrimmon (Highland bagpipe, whistle, bouzouki, vocals), and Ewan Robertson (acoustic & electric guitar, vocals.)
Calum has described the 10-track album as “much more song-based” than previous releases and that it is “deeply rooted in nature.”
As he explained in one interview: “It features original instrumental compositions from each band member inspired by global climate-action youth movements, seed-vaults, figures close to the band and places close to our hearts.
“We couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. You’ll still know it’s a Breabach album but it’s definitely a new sound for us.”
